Second Book: Nearing Completion

I finished writing chapter thirty in the second book today. Four more chapters to go and the first draft will be officially finished. The first book only had thirty-one chapters, so this is already an improvement from the word count aspect. In addition to finishing the first draft, I will also be working on the fourth draft of the first book later this month after a much-needed break from writing for a week or two. After the fourth draft is completed, I will start querying agents.

I am looking forward to my meeting with my academic advisor. Most likely, it will be sometime next week. I want to talk to him and plan out what classes to take when to get the most bang for my buck.

I already talked to a friend of mine who attended the school, and she's given me some tips about campus life. She's also going to introduce me to some people she knows who still attend the school. I am really excited to get back into a real school atmosphere. Going to a fine arts college is not the same as an academic school, so I am anxious to see the differences.

Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communication

I've finally settled on a good major to achieve my scientiæ baccalaureus. The University of Baltimore offers a major in Corporate Communication (replacing the, arguably, archaic Journalism major.) From the website's course overview:

It used to be that there were writers and there were designers; there were typesetters and there were videographers; there were managers and there were data entry operators. It used to be, too, that there were more listings in the phone book for blacksmiths and milliners than for cell phone stores and computer repair technicians. There may even have been a time when there weren't phone books. Those days are gone. … Some of our students enter the Corporate Communication program interested in skills such as writing, photography, video, graphic design or Web site construction; others are interested in career paths such as public relations or journalism.

I am excited to get back into the swing of things. In addition to the major, I plan to add a Creative Writing minor. With any luck, I will go into a masters program immediately after getting my degree. In an ideal world, I will go to Emerson for their Masters in Writing and Publishing.

In other news, working out is coming along swimmingly. I've added another ten pounds to the barbell, so I am lifting 110 lbs for bicep curls now.

I was hoping to have my prints back from the photos I shot on my vacation to Myrtle Beach today. Unfortunately, that was not the case. With any luck, they will get here by the end of the week. I'll have quite a few photos added to the gallery if that's the case.
